Membership

Q. What do I get with my membership/benefits of membership/why should I become a member?
A. Membership to the Modern Maturity Center gives you access to all members only opportunities. This includes but is not limited to the following: Free classes, seminars, workshops, clubs and events. Lower members only pricing on fee based programs including Trips and Tours. Access to on-site library. Ability to sell craft items in our Painted Star consignment shop. Free classified ads in the monthly Bulletin and on-site bulletin board. Access to for-fee transportation to and from MMC (when available). MMC membership is a prerequisite for purchasing a separate Fitness Center or Pool membership (excluding Silver and Fit and Silver Sneakers participants). Convenience of services hosted and located at the MMC. Please note: the MANNA nutrition program congregate meals do not require an MMC membership. Cost is $9 for anyone under age 60 and a $6 suggested donation for anyone over age 60.

Q. How old do I have to be to become a member/what age does membership begin?
A. MMC membership begins at age 50. Please note that some on-site services have different age limitations.

Q. Do I need to be a member for any of the following: Retired & Senior Volunteer Program, Senior Community Service Employment Service, Daybreak Adult Day, Front Porch Program, Caregiver Resource Center, MANNA nutrition program (congregate lunch), SNAP support, Senior Medicare Patrol assistance, Meals on Wheels.
A. No. MMC is the host site for these services and programs and membership to the center is not required to use their services. Each service has their own age, income and need limitations.

Q. Do I get a discount on room rentals if I am a member?
A. No

Q. Do I need to be a member to rent a room?
A. No

Q. Does the MMC take college interns?
A. Interns are taken on a case by case basis per department. Call the director of the department you are interested in interning with to see if there is a current need.

Q. Can I volunteer at the MMC for high school volunteer credit?
A. In general, we do not take volunteers under the age of 18 for liability reasons.

Q. Does the MMC take court appointed community service volunteers?
A. No, we do not accept court-appointed community service volunteers, for liability reasons. Volunteers age 55 or over may enroll through the RSVP program but may have to have a background check, depending on the station they will be serving.

Q. Can I sign up for senior housing at the MMC?
A. No. We have a Care Manager on-site who can give you resources and information on senior housing, however, you must visit the actual service center to sign up.

Q. Does the MMC have a social security office on-site?
A. No

Q. Can I receive legal services or help writing a will at the MMC?
A. No. The Care Manager on-site can give you resources and information on senior legal agencies in the community. Living will and estate planning workshops and seminars are offered throughout the year for informational purposes only.

Q. What is Silver and Fit/What is Silver Sneakers?
A. MMC is a participating facility for the Silver and Fit and Silver Sneakers programs. These are wellness benefits associated with some Medicare Supplement plans. Please check your plan to see if they are available to you. If so, you may be entitled to free use of our fitness center and pool.
